Thea’s birthday

You can learn many things from children.  How much patience you have, for instance.  ~Franklin P. Jones

Friday after school Thea had invited the whole class and a few of her closest friends for a birthday party. We had tried to convince her that a smaller group would be nice but she wanted to have a big party – and so be it. It was a nice party although it is difficult to control 23 children after their fourth+ candyfloss. We had organised a treasure hunt and some other games before the cake and birthday song. All the children seemed to have a good time -and we have 364 days to recover.

In the evening Graham came unexpectedly (as him and Anita often does) from Takoradi on his way to London and we all watched Shrek.

Saturday morning Thea opened the presents from her family and later Thea, Jacqueline, Jon and me went for a doggie play date with Maximus, JJ and Mongo. Unfortunately Maximus had a little fight with the host (a huge Boerboel). It was nothing serious but I am not sure Jacqueline will come with us next time… Later Jon came to help me put up the basketball net Thea got from Grandma and we all played some basketball. Then Jon and I went horseback riding with Thea, Jasper and Edie. Edie fell of the horse and had to recover for a while but she got back up on the horse. In the evening we went out for pizza with some friends. Ghana’s football team ‘Black Stars’ was playing Mali in the African cup of Nations so we more or less had the restaurant for ourselves. Thea had a sleepover with two of her best friends: Libby and Hannah. They are two very good girls and we had a good time although they got up at 4am and I had to send them back to bed.

Today we played minigolf and basketball before Libby and Hannah went home. Tonight Thea is watching Harry Potter and we are all having a lazy evening after a busy weekend…

The boys team won the treasure hunt.

Thea nearly won the mummy game.

The cake was the shape of a basket ball net.

It was a very hot day today...

Origin

This morning in the car Thea was telling me about an incident at school where they were to explain the class what country they were from. She was telling me that one of the girls from her class was claiming that she was from Ghana when she was clearly not. She is from Lebanon Thea said. After a while she asked me: “Where exactly am I from?” What to answer?

a)  You were born in London and thus you are British
b) You have spent most of your life in Ghana and thus you are Ghanaian
c) You have a British and a Danish Passport and your parents and grandparents all come from UK and Denmark and thus you are both British and Danish
d) Other?

Please make your comment…

Family

When you look at your life, the greatest happinesses are family happinesses.  ~Joyce Brothers

Welcome to my BlogSpot. Today’s subject is my family. In April 2007 I fell while playing football with my nephew in Vind. I had a severe concussion and lost my short term memory. I was in Denmark to participate in a conference on water resource management and had just played a chess tournament in Ribe. Jacqueline and Thea were in Ghana. Needless to say that it was a frightening experience to lose your memory and for a few days I did not know what I was doing in Denmark. Luckily I was with my sister and her family and they had to explain to me over and over again what I was doing there – I kept forgetting…
Most frightening was that I did not know where my family was. I repeatedly asked where they were and even when I got some of my memory back I could not wait to get home to them. Everything else just seems insignificant in situations like that. I love my family:
